The Oakland Athletics and Washington Nationals have agreed to yet another trade.

The Athletics have acquired left-handed reliever Fernando Abad from the Nationals in exchange for Class-A outfielder John Wooten.

In the last three years, the two clubs have completed five trades.

The Kansas City Royals have privately acknowledged a willingness to trade any of their relievers for the proper return.

"You've got to look at all of your options," a club official said. "Are we actively looking to move Greg Holland? No. But we've got to be open-minded to everything."

The Los Angeles Angels signed Joe Smith to a three-year, $15.75 million deal, setting the market for relievers this winter.

The Royals would want a major return for Holland, but rival club officials say Aaron Crow and Tim Collins are very available.

A number of clubs have inquired with the Chicago Cubs about Jeff Samardzija.

The Toronto Blue Jays are putting together a package of young players in hopes of acquiring the right-hander, according to a source.

The Toronto Blue Jays have received calls about Jose Bautista and Edwin Encarnacion this offseason.

"We haven't entertained the idea of trading either Bautista or Encarnacion," Alex Anthopolous said.

Dealing for David Price might become more expensive than teams originally thought.

Price signed a one-year, $10.1125 million deal with the Tampa Bay Rays last January, but $4.1125 million of it was contained in a deferred signing bonus that isn't payable until next year.

The contract was structured that way for tax purposes, but teams are wondering if Tampa Bay will use it in trade talks.

There is no rule that precludes the Rays from negotiating a trade that would require the team dealing for Price to take on the $4.1125 million in debt.

The St. Louis Cardinals have agreed to trade David Freese to the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for Peter Bourjos in a four-player trade.

Los Angeles will also receive reliever Fernando Salas, while St. Louis will receive outfield prospect Randal Grichuk.

The Toronto Blue Jays have some holes in their roster, but they are still open to a big move.

During the general manager's meetings, the Blue Jays discussed Matt Kemp with the Los Angeles Dodgers, according to sources.

Kemp has six years and $160 million left on his contract and the talks didn't gain any traction.

Ian Kinsler's agent, Jay Franklin, had no idea the Texas Rangers and Detroit Tigers were working on a trade until his phone started going crazy on Wednesday night.

"I got an ESPN alert and then everybody starting texting," Franklin said. "Ian is in Hawaii. He texted me and said, 'I think I've just been traded. Can you check?' We didn't see it coming."

The Rangers said on a conference call Wednesday night that word was leaked before they got a chance to inform everyone involved. The trade didn't require Kinsler's approval.

Prince Fielder is a member of the Texas Rangers because he gave his consent to Dave Dombrowski in a telephone conversation.

"I thought it would be good for everyone," Fielder said. "I just wanted everyone to be happy."

Fielder signed a nine-year deal with the Detroit Tigers prior to the 2012 season.

The Los Angeles Angels and St. Louis Cardinals have discussed a trade involving David Freese, according to sources.

Freese has also been linked to the New York Yankees in trade rumors this offseason.
